The federal government wants to regulate “fake news” in Canada, but has a track record of dismissing coverage it doesn’t agree with as misinformation.

Even so, Canada and the United Kingdom will be co-hosting a media freedom summit in England in July. True North wants to be there to stand up for press freedom, and hold the government to account. We can’t do this alone.

On World Press Freedom Day, we launch our crowdfunding campaign to empower us to cover this important summit.

Remember, we don’t get CBC’s $1.3 billion, nor do we get a piece of the $595 million media slush fund. Everything we do comes from our supporters.

Help True North and Andrew Lawton stand up for free speech and a free press.

We’re asking readers, like you, to make a contribution in support of True North’s fact-based, independent journalism.

Unlike the mainstream media, True North isn’t getting a government bailout. Instead, we depend on the generosity of Canadians like you.

How can a media outlet be trusted to remain neutral and fair if they’re beneficiaries of a government handout? We don’t think they can.

This is why independent media in Canada is more important than ever. If you’re able, please make a tax-deductible donation to True North today. Thank you so much.
