There are countless reasons to defund the CBC:
- They undercut private sector and independent media and compete for advertising space, all while receiving more than $1.2 billion per year in direct taxpayer subsidies.
- They frequently take content from other news outlets and pass it off as their own – including from True North!
- They consistently run cover for their preferred political parties, while giving endless negative coverage to the parties they don’t like.
- And speaking of bias, they even sued the Conservative Party of Canada during the 2019 election!
We could go on and on.
But here is the most important reason of all:
Even with the Trudeau government continuing to increase their funding, fewer people than ever are tuning into the CBC.
In 2019, less than 4% of Canadians watched the CBC.
That’s why they reported an 18% decline in advertising revenue in 2021. Meanwhile, CBC execs are cashing big bonus cheques despite their dismal performances.
