TDSB requests nearly $22 million to construct new “decolonized” and “fully Indigenized” school

Source: TDSB

The Toronto District School Board  is requesting nearly $22 million to demolish a Toronto Indigenous school and daycare and reconstruct a new one on the basis that the current structure is too emblematic of an Indigenous residential school.

The TDSB is requesting funding on behalf of the  Kapapamahchakwew Wandering Spirit School  from the Ontario Ministry of Education to construct an entirely new building to help “Indigenous students who carry the intergenerational trauma from Canada’s legacy of Residential Schools.”

Despite the province already granting the TDSB $11.5 million to renovate the current JK-12 school and childcare centre in 2018, TDSB is now asking for financing for a completely new “fully Indigenized standalone school to support Indigenous communities in the City of Toronto.”

TDSB said the current building can no longer be retrofitted with the previous funds initially granted for the renovation in a way that would “provide a truly decolonized environment where Indigenous programs can exist without the interference of colonial practices.”

In its Business Case to the ministry, obtained by True North, in order to meet “the unique needs of Kapapamahchakwew – Wandering Spirit School” a funding contribution of $21,962,231 is needed to construct a new school “exclusively used by Indigenous programs and services.”

“The funds allocated in 2018 are not sufficient to support the cost of the replacement school. The Board has made significant progress to align the future school to Ministry benchmarks, however, the current funding allocation is insufficient to support the construction of a new school due to existing market conditions,” reads the business case.

TDSB cites the uncovering of mass unmarked graves of Indigenous children subjected to Canada’s residential school system as a catalyst for the discussion of their collective commitments to Truth and Reconciliation.

“The 16 Phin building was designed and constructed to meet the needs of a colonial education system in the early 1900’s. As an imposing and expansive monolith, the building is not well suited in its current design, layout, or presence to serve as the permanent home,” reads the proposal.

According to TDSB, the current buildings’ “stark resemblance” to “the many residential schools that dotted the Canadian landscape until the mid 1990’s doesn’t provide for an environment that honors Indigenous voices and self determination.”

The image of the Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia, where the unmarked graves of 215 Indigenous children were allegedly found in 2021 is juxtaposed alongside the current school building. No human remains have been found at the Kamloops residential school since the claim was made.

TDSB said the only way to eliminate the “association with residential schools and to provide instructional spaces suited for Indigenous ways of learning,” is to construct a new facility that must be “designed by Indigenous architects” for Indigenous communities.

However, TDSB wishes to retain the location of 16 Phin, “although the building isn’t appropriate,”  because it offers 4.9 acres and is “large enough to accommodate a new facility.”

“Once the new facility opens, the existing 16 Phin building would be used for the Urban Indigenous Education Centre (UIEC) until funding is secured to expand the new school to include this group.”

The long term plan would be to have the current building demolished as it not only bears an aesthetic resemblance of a residential school, alleges TDSB, but also the  “smell, and unpleasant acoustic qualities which are representative of the colonial residential schools.”

Toronto police arrest terrorist cosplayer for stomping on Israeli flag at protest

Source: Mark Wickens - X

The Toronto Police Services have unmasked and arrested a Toronto man who frequents anti-Israel protests dressed as a Marxist-Leninist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine terrorist for allegedly breaching the peace by stomping on an Israeli flag.

According to a TPS report, 40-year-old David Shultz was arrested at an anti-Israel counter-protest at Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West, a Jewish neighbourhood. Police allege the man dressed in what appears to be PFLP attire refused to stop dragging and stomping on an Israeli flag across the street from a “large” pro-Israel crowd.

Police said they cautioned the man that his actions were causing a disturbance and breach of the peace. In a video posted of the event, Shultz refuses the order, saying it’s his right to do so when he is placed under arrest.

Shultz faces a charge of obstructing a peace officer and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 3, 2025.

In a video shared by X user “Leviathan,” Shultz can be seen wearing a red headband in the style of the listed terrorist entity, the PFLP. However, the headband says “Freedom, Peace, Equality, Justice” in Arabic. On his armoured vest, an inverted red triangle is displayed, a symbol used in Hamas propaganda videos to indicate Israeli targets before firing upon them.

“’I’m doing this because this is what I feel about this country. Israel deserves this treatment,” Shultz said to police. “This is how much respect I have for (Israel) I’m expressing myself. I’m using my rights; if you have to arrest me, then arrest me.”

As indicated in the post, the incident occurred before Rebel News journalist David Menzies was arrested for covering the protest. After trying to walk through the anti-Israel protest crowd, Menzies was swarmed and later taken away by police, who arrested him.

“Leviathan” also questioned a photo taken at the protest, claiming the positioning of Shultz’s arm looked like a Nazi salute, though that cannot be confirmed based on the photo alone.

Shultz also appeared in another anti-Israel protest and was seen standing guard dressed as a PFLP terrorist while protesters yelled anti-Israel chants through megaphones in the Toronto Metropolitan University lobby.

He was also reportedly seen protesting at the University of Toronto when Shai Davidai, a recently barred Jewish professor at New York’s Columbia University, held a rally against antisemitism.

Though Shultz’s main X account has been made private, One X user screenshotted posts from his account beforehand.

He called for the assassination of Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, the “elimination” of Israel, and claimed that the Israeli Defence Forces were the ones who carried out the Hamas-led terrorist attack on Oct. 7.

In response to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calling a violent pogrom targeting Jews in Amsterdam last week “horrifying,” Shultz said that Trudeau doesn’t speak for him or Canada.

“(Trudeau) is an unprincipled cretin. He has supported genocide to the full extent of his ability of the indigenous people of Turtle Island and the Indigenous people of Palestine,” he said.

A group called Jew Hate Database claims that one of Schultz’s aliases online is “Kevin Laser” due to photos posted by him on the site.

The X account associated with “Kevin Laser” has a propaganda poster featuring the recently eliminated Hamas leader Yayah Sinwar, with an inverted red triangle captioned by the rallying cry, “Do not expect justice but be justice.”

Another post shows various photos of Israelis, including Netanyahu, where some individuals are marked as killed, and the caption of the post says, “Nazi lives don’t matter,” implying the Jews are Nazis.

According to another post by the user on Oct. 31, he claims he has been arrested twice but had been released both times without charges.

TPS asks anyone with information about the individual to contact police at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or online at 222tips.com.

Ratio’d | Shocking Remembrance Day scenes trigger backlash across Canada

If there was any doubt that Canada is living in the throws of Justin Trudeau’s post national state, the scenes we witnessed on Remembrance Day across Canada should clear up that confusion.

Across Canada, official ceremonies were hijacked by foreign issues and woke ideology. In one Ottawa school, a Palestinian protest song was played. In Toronto, the country was slandered by an official for our role in slavery. In Nova Scotia, soldiers and veterans were initially told to show up in civilian dress so as not to offend foreign students and in Saanich, B.C., a Quran passage was read as the only prayer.

On the one day in this country that is reserved for our fallen heroes and veterans, foreign interest groups and woke ideologues hijacked the proceedings and in doing so, denigrated and insulted hundreds of thousands of veterans.

This is what Trudeau’s post national state looks like.

Mississauga mayor doubles down, refusing to condemn Remembrance Day-style vigil for terrorist leader

Source: X

Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish has doubled down against calls for her to condemn and prevent a Remembrance Day-style vigil for Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar, the orchestrator of the Oct. 7 Hamas-led terrorist attack on Israel.

Parrish continued her battle with concerned Canadians and Jewish rights groups over a planned Nov. 26 vigil billed as a “Lest we forget our heroes” event for the recently eliminated terror leader Sinwar.

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs shared a recording from a recent city councillor meeting, in which Parrish repeated talking points from the event organizer, Firas al Najim, and compared Sinwar to Nelson Mandela – an anti-apartheid activist who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.

“I just want to point out, and I’m not being facetious, Nelson Mandela was declared a terrorist by the United States of America ‘til the year 2008,” Parrish said. “Your terrorist and somebody else’s terrorist may be two different things.”

“By comparing mass murderer Yayha Sinwar and human rights hero Nelson Mandela, the Mayor of Mississauga Carolyn Parrish has – again – crossed a line,” CIJA said in a statement on X. “Yayha Sinwar was a terrorist, the main architect of the October 7 attacks and the leader of Hamas in Gaza, responsible for the deaths of thousands of Israelis and Palestinians.”

Sinwar was the leader of Hamas, a listed terrorist entity by Public Safety Canada. Hamas’ charter has the “vanquishing” of its enemy, the Jewish people, written into its constitution.

CIJA noted that it was the Liberal Party who labelled Hamas a terror entity in 2002 when Parrish was a Liberal MP.

Najim, a man highlighted by the antisemitism watchdog, the Canary Mission, as a propagator of anti-Jewish hate, said the same thing to Iran’s state broadcaster when promoting the vigil for the “resistance leaders” killed by Israel to the Islamic regime in Iran.

“For somebody, (Sinwar) is a terrorist; for other people, he’s a hero just like Nelson Mandela,” Najim said. “Nelson Mandela was a terrorist one time labelled as well, and we know now he’s a hero.”

The Canary Mission noted several instances of Najim calling for the destruction of Israel, allegedly harassing Jewish businesses, and glorifying terrorists. Najim was also arrested in 2022 for allegedly driving the car toward a crowd who were protesting the presence of IRGC members in Canada. The IRGC has since been listed as a terrorist group in Canada.

CIJA has demanded an apology from Parish, saying making the comparison between Sinwar and Mandela was “despicable.”

“It is an insult to the too-many families who have lost loved ones because of Sinwar, including Canadians. Mayor Parrish’s moral compass is obviously broken,” the statement said. “With this odious comparison, she sullied the reputation of the city she leads. Mississaugans, and frankly Ontarians and Canadians, deserve better.”

Parrish did not respond to True North’s repeated requests to comment this week.

Parrish was kicked out of the Liberal Caucus by Prime Minister Paul Martin in 2004 after she stomped on a doll of former US President George W. Bush during an episode of CBC’s This Hour has 22 Minutes. She also called Americans “bastards” and referred to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq as “the coalition of idiots.”

Guilbeault proposes new global carbon tax on maritime shipping

Source: X

Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault said the government is “very supportive” of the concept of creating a new levy on emissions caused by maritime transportation.

As global leaders gathered in Baku, Azerbaijan at COP29 this week to discuss climate change, Guilbeault told reporters that the private sector could help close out the gap in the USD $2 trillion funding shortfall for developing countries as they try to fight climate change.

The environment minister said Canada will spend $160 million to launch a new fund called GAIA to finance projects that aim to reduce emissions in lower-income countries.

According to Guilbeault, the new fund will include direct grants as well as long-term loans with the goal of getting $2 billion from private sources as well as the government.

Among the strategies discussed, Guilbeault suggested creating a carbon taxon shipping emissions.

“We are very supportive of the discussions that are happening at the International Marine Organization to put in place some kind of levy on international marine transportation,” he said on Tuesday.

The idea was championed by director of environmental affairs at the Shipping Federation of Canada Miako Ushio, who said her organization would like to see a global carbon price for the sector.

While no formal policy has been enacted, Guilbeault believes the wheels are in motion.

“The agreement we have to reach here is not necessarily exactly about which mechanism will enable us to achieve the funding goal that we will set for ourselves,” he said.

“We need to agree on what the new amount will be.”

However, news of another carbon levy was met with swift criticism from the Conservative party, which has been adamant that it would remove the existing domestic carbon taxes, if elected.

“Canadians discovered that Justin Trudeau’s radical Environment Minister, Steven Guilbeault, wants to create a new global carbon tax on international shipping. This tax money would then be sent abroad to other countries,” reads a statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s office.

The statement then called for Guilbeault to testify before a House of Commons Committee on the newly proposed carbon tax “that will make everything more expensive.”

“According to the Association of Canadian Port Authorities, Canada’s ports are responsible for $17 billion of economic output. The marine sector is responsible for 353,760 Canadian jobs.” reads the statement.

“This new tax on maritime transportation would undoubtedly drive investment and business away from our already struggling port system, putting strong union jobs at risk.”

Canada has already pledged to contribute $5 billion to developing countries trying to fight climate change from 2021 to 2026.

However, G20 countries are now being asked to increase their funding, with estimates claiming that USD $2.4 trillion is needed per year by 2030 for “emerging markets and developing countries” transition to clean energy, according to a G20 climate finance report

“On climate finance, the world must pay up, or humanity will pay the price,” ” said UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday.

However, the Conservatives pointed to Canadians’ growing reliance on food banks as an indicator that now is not the time to implement “a tax on shipping” which will ultimately translate to a “tax on the goods that are being shipped.”

“The carbon tax is nothing more than an expensive scam. It has done nothing to reduce emissions, while dramatically increasing the cost of living on the backs of working Canadians,” reads the statement.

The net cost of Trudeau’s current carbon tax has already been weighing heavy on Canadian households and will have cost the country’s economy $30.5 billion per year by 2030, according to the government’s data.

A recent report from the Parliamentary Budget Officer also concluded that the carbon tax rebates promised by the Trudeau government pay out far less than what they cost to Canadian taxpayers, regardless of the province they reside in.

“The carbon tax is nothing more than an expensive scam. It has done nothing to reduce emissions, while dramatically increasing the cost of living on the backs of working Canadians,” reads the statement.

The Daily Brief | Another alleged terrorist attack targeting Jews thwarted

Two Ottawa youth have been arrested in connection with an alleged terrorist attack targeting a pro-Israel rally on Parliament Hill.

Plus, President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming national security advisor Mike Waltz is a frequent critic of the Liberal government and has expressed excitement at the possibility of Pierre Poilievre replacing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

And not even a day after small business advocates disclosed that the carbon tax rebate for small businesses would be taxed, the Liberals backtracked on their position and removed the tax.

Trump’s new “border czar” concerned with Canada’s lax border security

Source: X

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed a new “border czar” who promises to be tough on illegal immigration and has challenged Canada to secure the US-Canada border amid high levels of terrorist suspects being caught.

During a local broadcast on Channel 7 News in Waterford, New York, on Monday, Tom Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Trump’s border appointee, discussed America’s northern border with Canada. Homan, from West Carthage, N.Y., just southeast of Thousand Islands, Ontario, said he won’t let Canada’s weak border security impact his home.

“Raw numbers, the southern border, of course, has more crossings, but percentage-wise, you got a lot fewer resources up here in border patrol agents,” he said.  “So they’re overwhelmed, and they’re not catching a lot of them because there’s only so much the few resources up here can do.”

He said the US’s northern border poses a “big national security vulnerability” after President Joe Biden and his border czar Kamala Harris sent half of its border patrol agents to the southern border.

Homan vowed to hire more northern border security agents and end catch-and-release policies, which have illegal immigrants being arrested and then released on promises to appear in court, which he said in many cases they “never” do.

“If you’re going across the northern border from St Lawrence River, the lake or on foot, they need to know right from the start, you can come, but you’re going to be arrested,” he said. “You’re not going to be released; we’ll remove you. It’s not going to be like the Biden administration…You’re not walking away. We’re going to lock you up.”

Homan said the US-Canada border is a “huge national security issue” as “special interest aliens,” or immigrants coming from countries that sponsor terrorism, use Canada as a gateway to the US.

According to US Customs and Border Protection, 484 individuals on the terrorist watch list were caught trying to enter the US through its northern border, while 249 tried to enter through the south.

”As an organization, they have a lot of money, and they can afford to fly into  Canada rather than come across that northern border because they know there’s a lot fewer officers up here,” he said. (they can travel) from Thousand Islands across the St Louis River in 45 seconds. So it’s an extreme national security vulnerability on the northern border. It’s one of the things I’ll tackle as soon as I’m in the White House.”

He said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will have to work with President-Elect Trump to enforce “whatever immigration laws” Canada has.

“There needs to be some negotiation between the two governments. But until then, we’ll do what President Trump did before. End catch a release and put a ‘remain in Mexico program’ for Canada.”

The “remain in Mexico program,” officially the Migrant Protection Protocols, required asylum seekers arriving at the Southern Border to wait in Mexico while their claims were reviewed and approved rather than have free reign in the country until then. The program deters migrants from crossing the border and reduces the number of asylum seekers waiting or avoiding hearings.

Homan called it a game-changer for border security.

“There’s a lot of policy things that need to be done, but we’ve done it once before, so it’s going to be a little easier this time,” Homan said. “But there has been understanding from Canada that they can’t be a gateway to terrorists coming to the United States.”

He noted that terrorism wasn’t the only safety concern coming across the border, but drug trafficking and other crimes coming through were cause for concern as well.

In an interview with True North’s Harrison Faulkner in February, Tom Homan raised concerns about the two countries’ shared border. He noted that according to a Government Accountability Office study done after the terrorist attack on 9/11, the agency said terrorists were ten times more likely to cross through the northern border than they were in the south.

In response to Homan’s concerns, Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland, said Canada takes border security “very very seriously,” Wednesday.

“It’s absolutely legitimate for our American neighbours to want to work collaboratively and effectively with us and to want to know that we take border security seriously, which we do,” she said.

The Canada Border Services Agency could not comment before the deadline, and Public Safety Canada did not respond to True North’s requests for comment.
