Liberal MP accuses party of pandering to Sikh extremism

A Liberal MP has openly criticized his fellow MPs and his government for pandering to the Sikh Khalistan movement, saying their behaviour is damaging Canada-India relations.

Ramesh Sangha, MP for Brampton Centre, told a Mississauga Punjabi-language television channel that Liberals are divided on the issue of supporting the Khalistan movement, but many are clearly pandering to their supporters.

“There is no doubt, there cannot be two opinions that the Liberal party is pandering [to] Khalistan supporters,” Sangha said.

“One thing is for sure when we raise this issue, it will raise an anti-India slogan or demand the division of India on some ground. In that, ultimately our relations, the Canada-India relationship will certainly develop cracks.”

Khalistanis are those within the Sikh community that wish to see an ethnostate for Sikhs carved out of Indian territory. It has little support among Sikhs in Canada and India alike.

When asked if he thought that the Liberal Party had a “soft corner” for Khalistanis, his response was clear.

“It does,” he said.

Sangha serves as chair of the Canada-India Parliamentary Association, a group of parliamentarians who follow Canada-India relations. It was through the Association that his concerns developed, he said.

Sangha blamed the disruptions in Canada-India relations in the past couple years to elements within the Liberal party which continue to support the Khalistani movement against Canada’s wishes.

“[The prime minister] said in strong words that we don’t want a divided India, we want a united India and we will work for that. Sikh ministers, MPs of our Sikh brotherhood, these brothers of mine, they have their own… These are their views and as long as they demand it, it is viewed that they are separatists. When this view surfaces, India also voices its hard view,” Sangha said.

Canada-India relations have been rocky since Trudeau’s embarrassing state visit two years ago when a convicted Khalistani terrorist joined Canada’s delegation to India. Gerald Butts, Trudeau’s close advisor, claimed the Indian government wanted to embarrass Trudeau.

The Chief Minister of India’s Punjab province has also accused Trudeau of pandering to the Khalistan movement to try and gain votes in October’s general election.

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office firmly denied any support for Sikh extremism but did not address Sangha or his remarks directly.

FUREY: The mainstream media is spreading “misinformation”

When people talk about “misinformation”, they’re not just talking creating “fake news”, they also mean amplification – stories that are amplified so they seem more important than they actually are.

We’re seeing this happen here in Canada, not by foreign forces or Russian bots but by our own mainstream media.

True North’s Anthony Furey explains in his latest video.

Do you agree with Anthony? Is the mainstream media bias against Conservatives?

Billion-dollar carbon scheme failed to meet all forecasts

As first reported by Blacklocks, a government audit revealed a government subsidy scheme to promote the use of biofuel failed to reach production goals in all metrics.

The ten year, $965 million Department of Natural Resources program saw the taxpayer help establish biofuel producers and pay them for the production of ethanol and biodiesel.

Producers received 10 cents for every litre of ethanol produced and 20 cents for every litre of biodiesel produced from the taxpayer.

“The program was expected to contribute to the establishment of a self-sufficient industry,” said the audit.

“Evidence is equally inconclusive as to the extent to which the renewable fuels industry has become competitive as a result of the program.”

The ambitious plan saw over 100 applicants looking to enter the generous subsidy scheme, compared to only 30 targeted. Of the 38 companies which received subsidies only 20 met their goals, two went bankrupt and twelve were “non-compliant.”

The overall production targets were not even close to being met. The 38 companies produced 300 million litres less ethanol and 70 million litres less biodiesel than expected.

True North’s Leo Knight believes the government is meeting the sobering reality that these carbon emissions schemes rarely reach their goals.

“Typical of this government’s mismanagement. Their green dream fanaticism doesn’t work in the real world,” he said.

As the audit did not measure the environmental impact of the program, it is impossible to measure how much Canada’s carbon emissions were actually reduced as a result.

The MacDonald-Laurier Institute summed up the expensive and unsuccessful subsidies scheme in more certain terms, highlighting the low return on investment for the taxpayer.

“Canada’s biofuel support programs have been a dismal failure. The policy has failed to deliver value to Canadian taxpayers,” said a press release from the group.

Two Ontario Liberal staffers got $450,000 in severance in 2018

Two aides of former Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne received over $450,000 from the taxpayer in severance packages just days after their electoral defeat in 2018.

Andrew Bevan, Wynne’s chief of staff, and Mary Rowe, her executive advisor, agreed to “enhanced termination payments” a week after Wynne’s government was decimated in the provincial election on June 7, 2018.

The two remained on government payroll until October 19, 2018, long after their employment was officially terminated on June 29.

In the period after the election but before the transition of power, the Ontario Liberal Cabinet gave Bevan $247,756 and give Rowe $204,497. The total severances for the two was $452,253.

Bevan worked for the premier’s office for five years, Rowe only worked there for less than two years.

“These recommendations were based on previous practices by governments of all stripes. Termination packages were then decided on by cabinet,” Bevan said.

This is not the first time the Bevan and Rowe were in the news for their income.

Bevan and Rowe were both on the “sunshine list,” consisting of bureaucrats that earn over $100,000. In March, True North reported that their combined salary was nearly $1 million in 2018.

Not only were these two highly paid, between 2017 and 2018 the Ontario government gave them outrageous raises.

Bevan’s wage went from $314,000 in 2017 to $552,000 in 2018. Rowe went from $259,000 in 2017 to just over $428,000 in 2018.

When Gerald Butts had Bevan’s job in 2007, his salary was only $157,675. Although Butts’ salary as principal secretary to Justin Trudeau has not been made public, in 2017 no staffer in the PMO made more than $350,000.

Bevan was paid at least over $200,000 more than his federal counterpart did in the last full year of Wynne’s term as premier.

When Progressive Conservative Premier Doug Ford heard about the sunshine list, he was understandably dismayed.

“They call this the sunshine list, but for hard-working people of Ontario, there is nothing sunny about it. Liberals insiders and fat cats are getting raises while real folks in Ontario haven’t gotten a raise in years,” tweeted Ford.

LAWTON: Left exploits kids to stoke global warming fears

Despite the Left’s claims that we need to think of the children when it comes to global warming, their only concern seems to be to exploit kids to champion their alarmist rhetoric.

We see this in Sweden’s Greta Thunberg, and also in a new campaign launched by the David Suzuki Foundation.

Tune in as Andrew Lawton takes aim at this disgusting trend.

LAWTON: Trudeau’s abortion hypocrisy

The Liberals say Andrew Scheer is unfit for office because he’s pro-life. Yet, in 2011, Justin Trudeau said he was personally opposed to abortion. Where’s the outrage?

Both Andrew Scheer and Justin Trudeau have said the same thing about abortion: they are personally against it, but will not legislate on it. Yet to the Liberals, Scheer’s record as a social conservative is “divisive.”

UK child killer and paedophile given money to move to Canada: report

Update: The British government has denied that Jon Venables will be sent to Canada.

Notorious child-killer and paedophile Jon Venables will be given money to move to Canada in a few short days because “it will be cheaper for UK taxpayers,” according to a report in the Daily Mail.

“The thinking is that it would be cheaper to get rid of him abroad, than keep forking out,” an insider source told the British newspaper.

Canadian sources have yet to confirm whether the country will be accepting Venables.

Venables was charged with the brutal murder of two-year-old James Bulger when he was ten years old. He has been granted new identities and kept anonymous by British officials since being convicted in 1993.

Venables and another ten-year old accomplice, Robert Thompson, snatched Bulger from a Liverpool shopping mall.

Officials claim they have grown weary of keeping his identity hidden from the public, who have exposed his past identities.

Venables is now 36-years old and is expected to be released and transferred abroad, most likely to Canada. Australia and New Zealand are also being considered as options.

Insider sources claim that the transfer will take place at night due to the risk posed by a “handful of people who know who he really is and where he is.”

A British court ruled against a bid by Bulger’s family to have his identity revealed over concerns posed against his safety.

After his initial conviction, Venables was further jailed for possessing a paedophile manual and over 1,000 images of child pornography.

On Sunday, Conservative Leader, Andrew Scheer, tweeted that it was “disturbing that this pedophile child killer might come to Canada. Apparently this isn’t the first time this has come up.”

“As Prime Minister I won’t let him come here. Where does Trudeau stand? Our country should not be a dumping ground for murderers, terrorists, and perverts.”

MALCOLM: It’s Trudeau, not Bernier, who’s the radical when it comes to immigration

“Say No to Mass Immigration.” This statement is, apparently, beyond the pale.

“It’s hurtful,” read a quoted featured in the Calgary Herald. A Toronto Star story described it as “deceptive,” while a headline in the Sun papers quoted someone calling it “very racist.”

It’s hard to imagine the bubble-wrapped, politically correct world one has to live in to consider these five words to be “very racist.”

Is a country allowed to set its own immigration policy? Do citizens have a say in the ever growing levels of newcomers being admitted into their country?

Given the hysteric reaction over a mundane election billboard from a third party group supporting Maxime Bernier and the People’s Party of Canada, the answer to these questions is a resounding no.

The billboards were pulled down, due to the angry mob of activists who demand that Canada not have debates about immigration.

The billboard had a simple message: “say no to mass immigration,” and reflects Bernier’s policy position. In contrast to the other major parties, Bernier wants to lower immigration levels. Not drastically, but down to 250,000 new permanent residents per year.

For reference, Canada admitted 240,000 newcomers in 2015. Prime Minister Trudeau has ramped up immigration levels, with plans to increase the number to 350,000 new permanent residents per year next year. In its 2018 immigration proposal, the Trudeau government admitted these were “the most ambitious immigration levels in recent history.”

Keep in mind that Canada also admits hundreds of thousands of other newcomers each year: students, temporary workers, asylum seekers and long-term visitors. The real number of immigrants coming to Canada each year is closer to one million.

Bernier’s proposal, like the supposedly controversial billboards, is modest. He says, “we propose less immigration, better integration of immigrants in our society, and a sharper focus on Canada’s economic needs.”

This is a policy statement that the overwhelming majority of Canadians agree with.

Last summer, pollsters from Angus Reid found that Canadians by and large wanted lower immigration levels. One poll found that only 6% of Canadians wanted increased immigration numbers, while more than half wanted lower numbers. Another poll found that two-thirds of Canadians believe that we accept too many asylum seekers.

These public opinion findings represent the lowest approval ratings of Canada’s immigration program since they started tracking public opinion in the 1970s.

Canada has always prided itself on being an open and welcoming place, and we have a strong record of successful immigration and integration. Newcomers learn our language, embrace our values and join the Canadian family.

But when we have over a million people joining a country of 35 million each and every year, some newcomers will choose not to integrate. They will seek out members of their diaspora, live in self-segregated neighborhoods, and never learn English, meet other Canadians or get involved in the broader community.

These closed immigrant communities are common in Europe. They are the product of mass immigration coupled with failed integration.

Any successful immigration program must have a front and centre focus on integration. But as the Trudeau government opened up Canada’s borders, they quietly dismantled important integration measures like language and residency requirements for citizenship.

It is Trudeau, not Bernier, who is the radical when it comes to immigration and integration.

You could argue that the Bernier billboards were brash, rude, or even a little mean-spirited, and that’d be a fair observation. But to call them “racist” and then ban their very existence won’t make Canadians any happier with mass immigration without integration.
